Term: April 1, 2004 through March 31, 2024
Steffan Taub, D.O. joined the Oakland Community HealthNetwork Board in 2003 after retiring from 35 years as a family physician. During his practice, he provided counseling and medications for patients, as well as worked with psychotherapists to coordinate services for people with severe and emergent needs. Prior to his medical career, Dr. Taub served in the Navy. He was stationed at the Long Beach Naval Station Alcohol and Substance Abuse clinic, which eventually became the Betty Ford Clinic.
Dr. Taub returned to Michigan in 1969 and joined a volunteer treatment initiative for "hippie" teens and young adults who were trying to reintegrate back into society after having been "on the road" during the 1960s. Through the professional relationships he established while working on the project, especially with social workers, Dr. Taub was also instrumental in helping people who had been institutionalized rejoin their communities. The program involved establishing several group homes, which eventually became part of Macomb-Oakland Regional Center (MORC) services. Dr. Taub served as the "Family Physician" for the persons who lived in sixteen of these homes for many years.
I am especially proud to be a part of this particular board and to have the privilege of working with the excellent staff of OCHN, says Dr. Taub.
I am committed to OCHN and the people who use and need our services. I believe in the Recovery Model.
In addition to his influence in Oakland County, Dr. Taub's advocacy efforts and professional expertise have also helped shape state policies and legislation through his leadership roles with the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB). Dr. Taub has been on the MACMHB Board since 2004. He served as the organization's secretary from 2009 through 2011, first vice president from 2011 through 2013, and president from 2013 through 2015. Dr. Taub has also been a member of the MACMHB Legislation Committee since 2003.
Dr. Taub is married to Oakland County Commissioner and former State Representative, Shelley Taub.
I have learned a lot about politics by osmosis and try to use both my political skills and the contacts I have made over 30 plus years to advance our goals, he adds.
